Alpine A390 Electric Coupe SUV to Debut, Targets Porsche Macan EV

Renault’s performance sub-brand Alpine has officially announced the upcoming debut of its first all-electric coupe SUV, the Alpine A390, scheduled for May 27 at 11 AM EST. This high-performance EV is set to rival some of the most powerful electric SUVs on the market, particularly the Porsche Macan Turbo EV.

Design Inspired by Concept Roots

The Alpine A390 takes design cues from a previous concept vehicle, with around 85% of its design expected to carry over to the production version. Key exterior highlights include 22-inch transparent wheels that reveal torque vectoring technology, muscular wheel arches, and crystal-style front and rear light bars that run the width of the car.

Its coupe-like silhouette blends sportiness with aerodynamic efficiency, carving a unique position in the fast-growing segment of luxury electric SUVs.

Motorsports-Inspired Interior

Inside, the A390 reflects Alpine's racing heritage. The interior layout includes a race-inspired steering wheel, physical toggle switches, a display for the front passenger, and a four-seat configuration for a focused yet premium cabin experience.

Performance That Rivals Porsche

Alpine aims to directly challenge the Porsche Macan EV, particularly its Turbo variant, which boasts 630 horsepower, a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of just 3.1 seconds, and a range of approximately 464 km.

In comparison, while exact performance specs for the A390 remain under wraps, its electric powertrain will feature a rear-biased 60:40 torque distribution for enhanced driving dynamics. The A390 will be equipped with an 87 kWh battery pack, delivering an impressive WLTP-rated range of up to 625 km on a full charge.

Compact Yet Efficient

With a length of 4615 mm and a wheelbase of 2751 mm, the A390 is slightly smaller than its German rival, potentially offering greater agility without sacrificing cabin comfort. The A390’s chassis and battery packaging are designed to optimize weight distribution and handling—key characteristics for performance-focused drivers.

A Core Part of Alpine’s Global EV Strategy

The launch of the A390 is a significant step in Renault's broader plan to increase Alpine’s global EV sales to 150,000 units annually by 2030. With its bold styling, robust range, and sporty driving credentials, the A390 is not just a new model—it represents a cornerstone of Alpine’s electric future.
